Summer Is Here!

At long last, summer has finally arrived in the UK and my god its a bloody hot one! I guess that makes up for the outlandishly extended winter that ended up enveloping spring. I mean come on, snow in April is just unheard of. But enough small talk, this is a science blog!

So summer is here and as promised, the mountains of projects have commenced. I am currently working on multiple projects at the same time which certainly isn't the norm for me. I am used to designing a project, ordering the parts and assembling it and not stopping until it is complete, then work starts on the next project. However, I am currently splitting my attention between multiple projects by planning one, then working on another until the parts for the first arrive and every now and then plan parts of a third and fourth as a break from the second. Pipelining the projects this way means two thing. First off, I am busy as hell as there is always something I can be doing towards getting the projects complete which really makes waves on my to do list. Two, it means that it actually takes longer for any particular project to be completed, but the amount of projects complete in a given time actually goes up.

That's all just a very technical way to say that videos and blog posts will not be present just yet, but when the time come there will be a ton of projects finished in a short space of time and thus a burst of posts and videos!

Rest assured I have some very exciting things in the works, including all of the experiments listed in the latest video on my channel, the lab build one year on video. In the mean time, here are some thing I have been up to.

Firstly, I have put up half of the storage bins and populated them with mechanical engineering hardware such as my large collection of wood screws for easy access. I still have another 32 odd bins but nowhere to put them. However they are not really needed yet as I don't really have anything else to pun in them (the majority of my electrical components go in the large components draws I have now acquired) and these actually quite a lot of shelf space left.

I have also updated the kitchenette with more Nespresso pods and my tea infuser as well as Nespresso paraphernalia. (I'm quite the hot drink aficionado!)

And the final thing to really finish the lab off in terms of physical items (so not projects or equipment) is something I've needed since I fist moved in. Trunking for the speaker cabling that runs around the perimeter of the entire lab. For the past 6 months its been held up using cable tags but they make the whole thing look horrible are were only temporary. Luckily, Wickes sells trunking of all lengths and sizes for a fraction of the prices found online so I went down there and stocked up. It tidies up the cables and perfectly blends in with the white walls and ceiling making the place look much neater. The trunking will also hold signal cables for other projects I intend to have stationed around the lab such as project CAPA, our internet of things platform.

That's it for now folks. But as I said before, expect a burst of posts soon. By the end of next week I should have two more projects finished and even more by the 2 weeks after that. "My lab is producing 4 science with its 1 population. Now that's efficiency!"
