07/07/2014 - New Inductance Meter

Finally got my first Inductance meter that measures up to a maximum of 20 Henrys. I already have a multimeter that does pretty much everything apart from this. This meter can also do capacitance and resistance that is also an added bonus. This is a vital part when making a DC resonant charging Tesla Coil.

27/06/2014 - More CRT's

So the local school was throwing away some old CRT's. I ACQUIRED THEM! Thats another 4 flyback transformers for me!

11/06/2014 - Lifter Experiments

Sorry for not updating in a while, i've been busy (as usual). I decided to do a few experiments with ionocrafts. They use a principle called electrostatic levitation to hover in mid air. It sort of failed as a flyback would be better than an NST in this instance. I will be sure to do this as a proper project in the future, hell maybe ill make a whole Cokcroft-Walton for it!

Oh yeah, a fire sort of happened! =D

Ghost Hunting Mock Setup

Going ghost hunting tomorrow at chillingham castle! Here is most of the equipment I will be bringing (A bit of a mess right now as I am trying not to forget any cables!) There will be detailed videos on my channel about what we find!

Hacking A Camera For Full Spectrum

What we see is simple visible light. But radio waves, infrared, microwaves, x rays are all forms of light to but we just cant see them. Most cameras are equipped with a filter that blocks out UV (Ultraviolet) and IR (Infrared) light. However, if you remove that filter you can capture much more light and create some strange images. This also enables the camera to do night vision.

For this hack I got this simple crappy camera I had lying around.

NOTE: If you are planning on doing this please read a proper tutorial, this is just me showing you what I did. I also take no responsibility if you permanently damage your camera when doing this so only do this on a rubbish camera.

The guts of the camera.

The TINY little image sensor. I just had to snap the little filter and it was then done!

Here are some images of my garden with the filter removed. Look at how strange everything looks. The blue tint is all of the UV and IR light coming from the sun.

Hacking An Old CCTV Camera

So iv had this old CCTV camera for ages and it looks quite nice but I have never got anything out of it. Well i'm going ghost hunting latter this week (Look at the 1 hour flappy birds special video for details on my channel Halflife390) and night vision and infrared is key to get good footage. IR panels are really expensive so I decided to rip apart this old camera to get the IR LED ring out of it and put it to good use!

Here is the camera opened up.

I opened it up and pulled out the IR ring and light sensor! Got a 9v battery and clip, switch and a couple of wires ad soldered it all together.

Cut some balsa wood to make a frame, hot glued it together and secured everything down with electrical tape.
Finally, I mounted it to a tripod so I now have an IR light tripod to aid in collecting footage. The whole process took about 20 mins. Even quick projects can produce spectacular results!

19/03/2014 - Current Lab (Until I get my shed in a few months!)

I used to do thing in my room and some other stuff down stairs. Due to me getting so much new stuff (3 CRT, 5 microwaves, dishwasher, loads of components) and running so many projects simultaneously (Wimshurst machine, flyback driver, marx generator, hutchinson recreation, motor controls) I have moved most operations to another room with a big empty table and a few work surfaces and cupboards. I am still using my room and a room downstairs for storage and other work like the fusor and the tesla coil. I hope to get a big new lab soon. It will be a nice big shed with electricity and may other features!

18/03/2014 - Gutted a dishwasher last weekend. This is what I got.

Sunday 16 March 2014

DANG IT!

Its a DC motor not an AC motor. Im sad now =(

16/03/2014 - Nice big boys AC motor to play with!

Might use this for an asynchronous rotary spark gap for project Exodus.

16/03/2014 - Nichrome Wire!

09/03/2014 - My Work Here Is Done

Halflife390 1, microwave nil!

(First of 3 microwave tare down!)

Welcome

If you are reading this Im sure you don't know what this blog is about, well I will tell you.

I'm Halflife390. My main thing on the internet is youtube, my channel is a gaming channel where I do videos with my friends on all different kinds of computer games. But as a hobby I like to do amazing science experiments! With my big projects I like to make a blog about them and many videos. With my small projects I to do one video. With my small projects I don't put any of it online.

I have decided to not just do blogs about my big project but also do this one giant blog about anything I do to do with science. I'm always experimenting with things but only the good stuff gets put online. Making this blog allows people to know what i'm doing all the time.

What Projects Have I Done?

I have done loads of projects ranging from hydrogen generators to lithium experiments, giant tesla coils and nuclear fusors. Not only do I do physics experiments but I also do chemistry experiments such as rocket fuel and thermite. Below is a list of every blog and every video I have made about my projects. Remember, whats below represents a small amount of things I really do!

Blogs -

My Nuclear Project - A project to make a working breeder reactor. This is the only project I stopped mid way, I will complete this project in the future though: http://mynuclearproject.blogspot.co.uk/

My Tesla Project - A project to make a big tesla coil (This is my favorite project so far!):  http://myteslaproject.blogspot.co.uk/

My Fusor Project - A project to make a demo fusor, this is different to the nuclear one: http://myfusorproject.blogspot.co.uk/

Youtube Videos -

My Flyback Project - This is my flyback transformer and driver, its also kind of a tutorial on how to do it yourself - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YsX4zjnxXEk

More on their way!

So thanks for reading. If you are still interested this blog will be updated every time I do something new, it won't be really in depth of what i'm doing, thats what the individual blogs are for. See you later!
