Lab Build: Painting - 10/07/17

After a long period of inactivity, the lab build is back underway and construction continues as we create my new lab.

Recently we spent 2 whole days painting the newly plastered walls brilliant matt white to reflect and reinforce the clinical and futuristic laboratory nature of the building. The first step in this process was to line areas with masking tape that need not be painted like the windows and then go around the outline of all the walls with a small paint brush. We then mixed a wet coat to be painted first, this consisted of a paint mix of about 30% water. This was necessary as to allow the paint to properly soak into the plaster creating a strong surface for the next coat.

We then took to the rollers and gave all 4 walls and ceiling 3 coats of paint. In between coats, we also painted the skirting boards gloss white, these required more coats and took much longer to dry and so took the week to complete. The only painting that remains now is the floor which is the easiest part to do.

As well as this, we used shovels and pick axes to dig up a trench where the armored cables and water pipe will be buried. Unfortunately, it rained for most of the time we were digging causing the trench to fill up with water and turn into a canal. It wasn't fun work and brought back bad memories of moving the soil in the rain but it didn't take too long.

Tomorrow the electrician is coming over to start the next phase of installing the electrics.

The glossy skirting boards currently residing inside the house to give room inside the lab for the electrician.

The official Halfcorp canal open for business!

Also, a pair of hanging baskets have appeared.
